Friends of Motherlodge,

While I find great peace and purpose sitting behind a drum set, I have come to see the responsibility of Motherlodge as perhaps the greatest creative act I can render. It has all the pleasing glory of playing drums – supporting and exciting the people around me, gathering our impulses towards a common thrust and, with all whimsy and fearlessness, seeing where things can go.

Next year will mark Motherlodge’s 5th year of existence. Over the past 4 years, the Lodge has expanded and contracted in it’s journey to become a homegrown presenting organization with world-class programming of unique events and collaborations. Our Live Arts Exchanges began as a celebration of the eclectic and all-encompassing environment of The Rudyard Kipling in Louisville. Since our first show on March 29, 2009, we have found Lodges in over 25 venues between Louisville and New York City, with friends and supporters from every imaginable corner of the world of music, theatre and art.

We have focused the ways that we build collaborations and pool resources. For the past four years our goal has simply been to do it, and, as our 2009 and 2010 collaborators at The Salvation Army say, to “do the most good” with what we have.

As we begin our fifth year, one thing is certain: Motherlodge cannot exist without support from the communities in which we lodge. I hope you will take a moment and encourage friends and family to join us next Sunday night at Actors Theatre of Louisville or go to our website and see how easy it is to make a donation.

With many thanks, Ray

A One Night Motherlodge Fundraiser

for Spring Motherlodge 2013

featuring

jpeg The Barber And The Farmer by Ethan Lipton

…NYC sketch artist Michael Arthur will take time away from his role assisting The Flaming Lips’ development of “Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots – The Musical” to come to Louisville for a one-night encore performance of “The Barber And The Farmer”, a funny and harrowing play collaboration between Michael and the brilliant New York playwright/singer/songwriter Ethan Lipton. For the 40 minute play, Lipton uses a computer dialogue program to create the spoken words of the actors. The soundtrack plays from a laptop while Arthur illustrates, his images projected onto a screen.

…also featuring…

Bonnie “Prince” Billy, a Union Tree Reunion, Adam Rapp, Doug Schutte, The Derby City Dating Scene, Roadie Rodahaffer, Jacob Duncan, Scott Anthony, Mesiko, and a one-night Motherlodge Pop-Up Art Gallery.

Join us for an evening of once-in a lifetime performances and a cash bar that will make you happy to be alive and proud that you have supported Motherlodge in your city!!!

Motherlodge “Live Art Exchanges” are programs that combine diverse performance mediums (music, theater, cooking, visual arts, storytelling, film…), involve online submissions, and encourage cross-city collaborations with artists, venues, community organizations, and individuals
